It’s that time of the year, folks! The season has well and truly arrived…
With the onset of ‘de-frosting’ our cars in the morning, head colds, flu and frozen feet at night, I thought I’d take this opportunity to suggest five simple ways of surviving the chill that I find incredibly useful.
1. A lovely, warm bowl of pumpkin soup…
Soup, glorious soup! Yes, the iconic meal for winter…with some added spice! Here’s a superb recipe by Donna Hay for you all to enjoy:
Spicy Pumpkin Soup
1 TBLS green curry (Original recipe said red)
1 kg pumpkin – peeled and chopped (I used 1 small butternut, and also added a carrot and sweet potato)
4 cups chicken or vegetable stock
1.5 cups coconut milk
1 chilli (optional)
1) Fry the curry in the pan for 1 minute.
2) Add the stock and pumpkin, stir. Put a lit on and let it cook for approx 6 minutes or until soft.
3) Blend until smooth (either in a processor or with a stick blender).
4) Add coconut milk and stir…
5) Sprinkle optional chilli on top…
Enjoy, soup lovers!
2. Yummy, orange flavoured, ‘chewable’ vitamin C…
Personally, I choose Cenovis, (got to love munching away at ‘health’ in the morning!)
3. A pair of ‘uggs’…
They don’t have to be fancy! I’ve had the same pair from “Cotton-on” for two years now and they’re still doing the job. Hurray for Aussie ‘ugg’ boots!
4. A good, old throw-rug…
While browsing around Willoughby shops, I found a half price Indian throw-rug at “The Big Buddha“. They are, unfortunately, closing their store so get in quick!
5. An electric blanket…
I’ve been meaning to get one of these…
So many memories of the awesome electric blankets at my Grandmother’s house…I’m not sure where to get one though – any one know?
When you’re busting out those radiators and warm, wooly jumpers remember – there’s no such thing as cold weather, just inappropriate clothing!
